Recently, Good Good Golf emerged as a prominent brand among young golf enthusiasts. Known for its collaboration with top golf brands, Good Good partnered with Callaway Golf to create products like putters, clubs, and balls. Their apparel is sold through major retailers such as WorldWide Golf Shops, Target, and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
The brand faced significant controversy following an advertisement meant to parody a movie. The ad, featuring co-founder Garrett Clark, showed him pushing a woman, Alexis Miestowski, and declaring, “do not touch my new driver.” The portrayal quickly drew criticism for depicting violence against women. As a result, the ad was removed, and Good Good issued an apology.
We posted a video to our channels that ultimately depicted actions that are not aligned with our values as a brand. We have since taken that content down and sincerely apologize. Good Good has always stood for making the game of golf more inclusive to all, and we will continue to ensure that is our mission moving forward.
Initially, Callaway allowed Good Good to absorb the blame, expressing disappointment with the ad. Later, they confirmed they had approved the ad’s release.
The controversy impacted the anticipated launch of “Big Break X Good Good,” a show slated to air on Golf Channel. Golf Galaxy, the title sponsor, requested its name be removed from the production. Furthermore, several retailers, including Dick’s Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy, reportedly took Good Good’s merchandise off their shelves.
Rumors suggested the possible cancellation of the Good Good Championship, an event held at Barton Creek Resort & Spa’s Fazio Canyons Course. New PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp expressed concern over how the ad was handled, highlighting disappointment in the initial response from Good Good.
I think initially no. I think what we saw was concerning, is clearly not aligned with PGA TOUR values. We take it very seriously. I think their initial response was disappointing. It was a bit defensive and late. But I think the responses are getting better. I think we’ve seen some things this morning, we’ve had some conversations with them, so we’ll continue to monitor and work with them going forward. But no, we were disappointed with what we saw.
Rolapp further commented on the future of the event, describing it as “fluid.” The expectation is for improvements in how Good Good addresses such issues moving forward.
The situation highlights ongoing debates over corporate and public responses to controversy. While the ad faced justified criticism, some argue the reaction was excessive. Concerns about “cancel culture” and the commercial impact reflect broader conversations about how such situations are managed in today’s social climate.
