Everton Blair Wins Special Election in Georgia’s 13th District

Residents of Georgia’s 13th Congressional District have chosen Everton Blair to complete the term of the late Rep. David Scott. This decision follows Scott’s passing in April. The Associated Press projects Blair’s victory.

Blair emerged successful in the run-off, defeating Marcye Scott, the late David Scott’s daughter. In the initial July 28 nonpartisan special election, Blair finished second to Scott out of five candidates, advancing to the run-off.

With this win, Blair will serve the final months of Scott’s term, which ends in January. This is due to his third-place finish in the May 19 Democratic primary for the upcoming full two-year term.

In the upcoming November elections, voters will choose between Democratic state Rep. Jasmine Clark and Republican Jonathan Chavez to serve the full term starting in January. The 13th District remains a stronghold for Democratic candidates. In the 2024 election, Scott secured re-election with approximately 72% of the vote. Similarly, the district favored then-Vice President Kamala Harris with about 71% of the vote.

Just 70 days remain until the 2026 midterm elections.
