Irish authorities are actively working to secure a warrant to extradite the main suspect in the murder of Jamey Carney. The 43-year-old New York mother was found beaten and suffocated at her home in Killarney last month.
Carney shared her experiences living abroad under the moniker “New Yorker in Ireland.” Her teenage daughter discovered her on July 7. Investigators suspect her partner, a Jordanian national seeking asylum in Ireland, is responsible for her death. He allegedly fled Ireland on a last-minute flight to Istanbul, eventually reaching Jordan, where he was detained.

Side-by-side Facebook images of Jamey Carney were shared, highlighting her tragic death. Irish police have initiated a murder investigation into the case.
Authorities have submitted a recommendation for murder charges to Ireland’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), as reported by The Irish Mirror. The DPP is reviewing the case to decide on formal charges.
If charges are approved, Irish officials may encounter diplomatic challenges, as Ireland does not have an extradition treaty with Jordan.
An Garda Síochána, the national police force of Ireland, provided no comment to Fox News Digital on the ongoing investigation into Carney’s murder. “A file has been submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions,” a spokesperson confirmed.
ASPECTS OF DIPLOMATIC AND JUDICIAL PROCESSES
Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan emphasized every diplomatic and judicial avenue would be pursued to ensure justice, according to The Irish Independent. “The gardaí have a clear line of inquiry. The person of interest left Ireland before Ms. Carney’s body was discovered,” he stated.
The suspect reportedly arrived in the UK before traveling to County Kerry via Northern Ireland. While in Ireland, he lived in government accommodation for asylum seekers and worked in hospitality and construction. His relationship with Carney developed over time.
Carney’s social media highlighted her partner as part of “a mixed couple,” and she had begun learning Arabic. Jamey’s sister, Devon, was consoled at her funeral at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Killarney on July 15, 2026, as reported by Fox News.
The Irish Independent noted the suspect expressed interest in moving to the US, claiming Carney was helping him obtain residency there.
Requests for comments were made to the Director of Public Prosecutions by Fox News Digital.
