Detroit Lions Aim to Open Super Bowl Window Despite Setbacks

The Detroit Lions began the 2025 season aiming for a Super Bowl title. They ended the regular season with a 9-8 record, only narrowly missing the playoffs. This was a disappointment after being crowned the 2023-2024 NFC North champions.

Despite this setback, Lions head coach Dan Campbell remains optimistic about the team’s future. He believes their roster is still capable of contending for a Super Bowl. Campbell expressed confidence that their Super Bowl window remains open.

“Our window is not closed. It’s not closed. That was the whole reason why we did this. We fell short last year. But needed to get in [the playoffs], and now it’s about the matchups, where you’re playing and who you’re playing,” Campbell stated in an interview with Eric Woodyard of ESPN.

He discussed the importance of maintaining a well-rounded team rather than focusing on acquiring a single star player. “We want to be able to do that every year,” Campbell explained. He noted the risks associated with putting all resources into one key player, who might get injured, leaving the team vulnerable.

Campbell emphasized building a unit capable of competing annually. He stressed the importance of being able to make critical plays and winning games. The Lions are set to begin their 2026 season with a Week 1 game against the New Orleans Saints on September 13.
