Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday has announced charges against 14 individuals connected to a major cocaine distribution operation linked to Penn State University. The accused include both current and former students, as well as off-campus fraternities.

Details of the Case

The Attorney General’s office specified that 13 of the defendants were students at Penn State during the 2023-2024 period when the alleged activities took place. The 14th defendant, a student’s father, faces charges of tampering with evidence and obstructing the investigation.

Key individuals, Agostino Abbatiello and Thomas Robinson, are accused of supplying cocaine. They reportedly traveled frequently to Philadelphia and New York to acquire large amounts of the drug.

Involvement of Fraternities

Fraternity members from Delta Upsilon and Sigma Chi allegedly participated in cutting and packaging cocaine within their frat houses. These activities reportedly involved fraternity pledges and members, who distributed the drugs to students.

Additional Charges

Apart from Abbatiello and Robinson, Mohammed Hurabi and Lars Zeepvat have been charged with felony corrupt organizations, conspiracy, and dealing in unlawful activities. Robert Zanolla faces felony conspiracy and other charges related to misuse of communication devices.

Additional defendants, described as “student-aged,” face misdemeanor charges for possession and drug paraphernalia. This group includes Liam Smith, Michael Brogno, Kaden Howe, Connor Hurleigh, Seth Beardsley, Kyle Ridpath, Daniel Price, and Charles Wiseman.

University and Organization Responses

The university issued a response, expressing deep concern over the allegations. They announced the suspension of Delta Upsilon fraternity while the investigation proceeds. Sigma Chi, not being recognized by the university, lacks its support and oversight.

From Delta Upsilon, Executive Director Justin Kirk stated the fraternity had already taken action against involved members. Coordination with Penn State in the investigation is ongoing.
