Resilience Shines as Palisades Village Reopens After Devastating Wildfire

Nineteen months have passed since the Pacific Palisades wildfire ravaged over 5,000 homes. The disaster uprooted the lives of thousands in this Los Angeles neighborhood. Now, locals and visitors are celebrating the reopening of Palisades Village on August 15.

Palisades Village occupies 100,000 square feet. It offers curated boutiques, eateries, and experiences. The reopening festivities include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, shopping experiences, tastings, family-friendly activities, and entertainment.

“The way we reopen is a sign throughout the city that’s suffering in so many ways that we actually are resilient,” commented Rick Caruso, a notable business figure in Los Angeles, during an earlier tour.

Caruso, the founder of the real estate company Caruso, has played a significant role in the city’s recovery efforts. He’s been involved in local government commissions and established Steadfast LA, a public-private partnership focused on recovery after the fires.

Caruso invested over $100 million in a mayoral campaign against Karen Bass in 2022. Despite the loss, he has been vocal about city management since the fire.

The Palisades Fire burned for three and a half weeks in January 2025. While the village mostly survived, it required $100 million in smoke remediation and rebuilding. The downtown area suffered more, with numerous businesses and structures lost.

A prominent Hollywood music composer affected by the fire expressed optimism about the reopening. He highlighted the need for essential services like a grocery store, recalling the loss of both Gelson’s and Ralphs Fresh Fare.

Structural rebuilding continues as new homes are constructed. The community looks forward to the return of restaurants and gas stations.

“We took everything down to the studs and rebuilt it after having environmental engineers test it,” Caruso explained. The emphasis on safety and cleanliness was crucial to the project.

Since its inception in 2018, Palisades Village has been a celebrity hotspot. The reopening includes both legacy and new businesses, like the Netflix-run Bay Theatre and Jennifer Meyer Jewelry. About 60% of original tenants are returning, though not all will be back.

New faces include an American grill by Timothy Hollingsworth and Nancy Silverton’s Italian chophouse, Spacca Tutto.

Traci Park, LA City Council member, said, “This is one of many positive steps in this journey.” She emphasized the importance of community recovery, especially local businesses.

Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin introduced Assembly Bill 2692 to assist residents affected by expiring property restrictions. She described the reopening as an “important milestone,” symbolizing the revival of communal connections.

Caruso CEO Corinne Verdery commented, “Opening day celebrates resilience and shared determination.” She recognized it as a significant moment of community progress.

For Caruso, this project bears personal meaning. His family was directly affected by the fire. The reopening symbolizes a new chapter for the Palisades.
