Children’s YouTuber Ms. Rachel Advocates for Reparations Amid Political Activism

Children’s YouTuber Ms. Rachel, known by her real name Rachel Accurso, recently expressed support for reparations in an Instagram post. This move aligns with other political statements made by the online educator. On Monday, she shared a quote from Ta-Nehisi Coates’ 2014 essay “The Case for Reparations,” emphasizing the need for America to address its historical context.

“Two hundred fifty years of slavery. Ninety years of Jim Crow. Sixty years of separate but equal. Thirty-five years of racist housing policy. Until we reckon with our compounding moral debts, America will never be whole,” the quote stated.

The quote and post marked another instance of Accurso engaging in political discourse through her children’s entertainment platform. She previously appeared on the “TODAY” show discussing various subjects.

Coates’ essay is renowned for arguing that the prosperity seen in America was achieved through unjust means. He called for a deeper national reconciliation beyond simple financial compensation. Coates wrote about the necessity for a spiritual renewal that includes acknowledging the complexities of American history, suggesting that reparations would bring about a change in national consciousness.

“What I’m talking about is more than recompense for past injustices — more than a handout, a payoff. What I’m talking about is a national reckoning that would lead to spiritual renewal,” Coates explained. “Reparations would mean a revolution of the American consciousness, reconciling our self-image as the great democratizer with the facts of our history.”

Accurso’s political advocacy extends beyond supporting reparations. Last month, she endorsed several Democratic political candidates, including Cori Bush from Missouri and Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, before primary elections.

Additionally, she recently commented on the investigation into Nolan Wells’ death, suggesting racial bias was involved. Accurso stated, “We know the investigation and everything that followed would have been different if Nolan Wells were White and his friends were Black. Nolan and his family deserve justice.”

Former Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg criticized Accurso for her statements, accusing her of causing division and offering commentary on the Israel-Hamas war. Aronberg told Fox News Digital that Accurso’s ongoing political posts often prioritize narrative over factual accuracy.

“Ms. Rachel is at it again. Whether it’s injecting division into domestic tragedies or spreading toxic narratives in posts about the Middle East, she constantly pushes narrative over facts,” Aronberg remarked. “We need real investigative transparency [in the Wells case], not commentary from popular children’s creators on tragic deaths and foreign policy.”
