A New Jersey training camp practice between the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers was interrupted by a medical emergency on Tuesday. Jets cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers was taken from the field in an ambulance at the team’s Florham Park facility.
Stiggers received medical attention, including an IV, while still on the turf, according to ESPN. After a play, Stiggers reportedly passed out but remained conscious. Head coach Aaron Glenn praised the medical staff, noting Stiggers is now able to talk and feels ‘for the most part…good.’
Temperatures in Florham Park were around 85 degrees on Tuesday, having neared triple digits over the weekend. The practice session was intense, with at least three altercations, one involving Stiggers.
Stiggers’ path to the NFL was unconventional. Skipping college football, he started in the Fan Controlled League and spent a season with the Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts. The Jets drafted him in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, making him one of the few players since 1999 to transition directly from the CFL. Last season, he made 27 tackles and two fumble recoveries in 15 games.
