Police in Thailand are responding to a shooting incident at a high school in the Nonthaburi province on the outskirts of Bangkok. The tragic event occurred at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, where both injuries and fatalities have been reported.
The shooter, identified as a student, remains inside the school. Arsit Sampantharat, the Interior Ministry’s permanent secretary, confirmed the situation to local media. However, precise details regarding the number of casualties have not been disclosed by officials.
Images from the scene captured an atmosphere of distress, with people comforting each other outside the school’s premises. Police and first responders were working within the school, and the authorities appear to have secured the building. The official status of the shooter, though, remains unconfirmed publicly.
According to witnesses, students took refuge inside classrooms upon hearing gunshots originating from another building. Police later assisted them in safely evacuating the premises.
This incident recalls previous violent events in Thailand. In February, a 17-year-old acquired a firearm from police and initiated an attack at a public high school in southern Thailand. This assault resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to two others. Additionally, in 2023, a 14-year-old was involved in a shooting at a significant shopping center in Bangkok.
