Sydney Towle, a social media content creator known for her relentless optimism while battling a rare cancer, has passed away at the age of 26, her family announced. Diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma in August 2023, Towle maintained a positive outlook throughout her journey.

Her family confirmed her peaceful passing on a Wednesday night through a video posted on her TikTok account. Her brother, Austin, expressed pride in her courage, stating, “She fought really hard, and we’re so proud of her. We thank all of you for your support over the years.” Her mother, Elizabeth, emphasized the importance of the support they’ve received and assured Sydney’s memory will endure.

Described as “an endless ray of sunshine,” Towle’s influence transcended her physical battles. Born on November 15, 1999, in Newburyport, Massachusetts, Towle spent her formative years in Hobe Sound, Florida. Her death was reported by the New York Times, citing her place of passing as the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

Even prior to her diagnosis, Towle had cultivated an online presence by sharing everyday moments, frequently enjoying the beach and nature. Her love for surfing and running defined much of her content. Following the cancer diagnosis at 23, her posts candidly documented the realities of her condition and treatment while retaining her hobbies and trademark positivity. Her TikTok following exceeded 1 million, reflecting her widespread impact.

Towle’s ethos was encapsulated in her early post-diagnosis sentiment: “I’m in good spirits, I’m smiling. If anything, it just makes me appreciate life more.” This mindset permeated her content, where she portrayed both moments of joy and the stark reality of hospital stays and chemotherapy.

Towle graduated from Dartmouth College in 2022, having pursued studies in government and environmental studies, and worked professionally as a social media manager for Epic Games. She had discussed ambitions to participate in the 2026 New York City Marathon to fundraise for the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, successfully gathering over $10,000 for the cause.
