Florida Machete Attack
A disturbing incident in Florida involves Ruben Altidore, 36, accused of attacking his sister with a machete while she slept beside her 1-year-old daughter. This attack occurred in Margate, roughly 40 miles north of Miami. According to the arrest report, Altidore repeatedly attempted to kill his sister during the attack, exclaiming, “Oh my God, why aren’t you dead yet?” Altidore was apprehended and charged with attempted felony murder, aggravated child abuse, and probation violation.
Details of the Attack
The sister survived but sustained severe injuries. Injuries included a 10-inch wound on her right thigh that reached the bone, a four-inch cut on her right hand, potentially amputating several fingers, and severe wounds to her left hand. Thankfully, her 1-year-old daughter was found unharmed, though covered in blood.
The woman managed to escape her brother and sought help from a neighbor. Her screams were captured on a home surveillance video. A neighbor, Luis Pereria, shared that she sought assistance, baffled by the brutality of the attack. Investigators observed extensive blood trails from the victim’s bedroom to outside the house.
Authorities discovered a machete, with suspicious marks, under a bed. Altidore remains in custody at the Broward County Main Jail without bond. The reason for his violent actions remains unknown.
