LeBron James Joins Philadelphia 76ers for Record 24th NBA Season

LeBron James has announced he will play his record 24th NBA season with the Philadelphia 76ers, raising the team’s hopes even higher after the trade for Jaylen Brown. The big question for Sixers coach Nick Nurse is what position James will take on the court.

Nurse Explores James’ Role as ‘Offense Creator’

Nick Nurse, appearing on “Takeoff” hosted by John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia, addressed rumors surrounding James’ role. “The word is out that maybe LeBron’s gonna play some point [guard]?” Clark asked. Nurse quickly affirmed the possibility.

“He is an offense creator. He is certainly a guy that will bring the ball up the floor and try to create for himself and others. He is really good for others. I think that lends itself to that, yeah,” Nurse confirmed.

James is renowned for his ability to play all five positions. Serving as the primary ball handler could benefit the Sixers’ other stars, such as Tyrese Maxey, who frequently brought the ball up court before James joined.

“I think Tyrese, I keep saying how great a shooter he is. So, he’d better get ready to catch and shoot some of those deep threes that he takes … Let’s not forget how great Tyrese is with the ball,” Nurse explained. “Being able to be versatile with other guys, putting them in different places, I think always is beneficial too.”

The addition of James could also benefit younger players like V.J. Edgecombe.

“He’s a young guy that can see a guy who’s a true pro, right? He knows how to work. He knows what it takes,” Nurse said.

The benefits depend on how well Brown, James, Maxey, Edgecombe, and former MVP center Joel Embiid bond during the offseason. All five possess the potential to significantly impact the court, yet there remains only one basketball. This raises the question of who will take the crucial shots. Brown, the team’s new face? Maxey, known for making big shots? Embiid, the injury-prone star? Or James, possibly the greatest to play the sport?

The Sixers face many questions as they become perhaps the most intriguing team in the NBA this season.
