NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Controversial Media Associations and Statements

2 hours ago 0

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is under scrutiny for his association with Uncivilized Media, a Qatar-based outlet accused of disseminating antisemitic conspiracy theories. In 2023, Mamdani had an interview with the outlet, and as of July 24, 2026, he was following its account on Instagram. However, by July 27, 2026, Mamdani appeared to have unfollowed them. Despite this, clips from his interview were shared as collaborative posts on Instagram, appearing on both Mamdani’s and the outlet’s accounts.

Controversial Media Content

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and other experts highlight that Uncivilized Media has circulated content accusing Jews and Israelis of pursuing global domination, being colonialist, and controlling the media, among other allegations. The ADL cited a video from July 2026 where Israelis were accused of trying to “colonize the world.” According to Oren Segal, ADL’s senior vice president of counter-extremism, Uncivilized Media frequently promotes “classic tropes about Jews.” Although Mamdani’s interviews did not focus on these conspiracies, some Jewish New Yorkers are concerned about how his views align with those of the outlet.

“Appearing on any platform can normalize the rest of its content,” Segal explained to Fox News Digital while stressing that neither he nor the ADL accused Mamdani of endorsing all the outlet’s content.

He continued, stating that the connection between Mamdani and Uncivilized Media raises questions for New Yorkers curious about whether Mamdani shares the outlet’s views on broader topics.

Mamdani’s Statements

During an interview with Uncivilized Media on September 11, 2023, Mamdani emphasized the Palestinian issue as “central to my identity,” labeling it a quest for freedom. He expressed concerns that people claim to care about freedom and justice, yet place restrictions concerning Palestinians. Mamdani discussed how his background shaped his perception of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, viewing it through empathy and solidarity as someone from the Third World.

Days after this, another video featured Mamdani asserting that progressive views and Muslim beliefs had “inherent solidarity.” He identified as a socialist, not merely progressive, stating, “This idea of a single story that Muslims stand in opposition to queer rights […] flattens out a community with a history spanning hundreds of years across numerous countries.” This rhetoric sparked concern among Jewish New Yorkers, who feel their relationship with City Hall has worsened.

Public Reaction and Further Developments

Segal suggested that Mamdani could address the concerns by condemning Uncivilized Media’s antisemitic narratives. According to Segal, if Mamdani claims to improve New York while Jewish residents feel ignored, he should clarify whether the outlet’s content reflects his views on Israelis.

Further scrutiny of Mamdani arose after his controversial remarks on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Mamdani labeled Netanyahu as “a war criminal” and “the architect of a horrific genocide against the Palestinian people,” while admitting he lacked the legal power to arrest him.

Neither Mamdani’s office nor Uncivilized Media responded to comments requested by Fox News Digital.
