Controversy Surrounds Wisconsin Brewery’s Promotions Targeting Political Figures

The Minocqua Brewing Company in Wisconsin has drawn criticism for controversial promotions linked to the deaths of political figures. The brewery announced a “half-price beer day” to celebrate when Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., passes away, attributing McConnell to “about half of all America’s current problems.” This follows a previous promise by the brewery of free beer when former President Donald Trump dies.

The announcement was made on the brewery’s Instagram, critiquing Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear for not calling a special election to replace McConnell, referred to as the “ghost from Kentucky,” before August 3.

Sen. McConnell, aged 84, has been absent from the Senate for more than a month due to a fall at home. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has publicly called for McConnell to prove his fitness to serve or resign.

The brewery’s actions have sparked discussions. Their “half-price beer day” seeks to hold McConnell accountable, with t-shirts and promotional materials supporting the event. Meanwhile, a previous post suggested offering free beer if Trump were to be killed, though his name was not directly mentioned.

Currently, the brewery faces potential revocation of its alcohol license by Wisconsin’s Department of Revenue. Authorities claim that beer was transported from Illinois without correct permits or taxes. The brewery’s owner, Kirk Bangstad, labeled the revocation attempt an exaggerated reaction to alleged tax issues. The appeal process has temporarily halted the revocation.

Additionally, Bangstad’s Minocqua Brewing Company SuperPAC seeks to oust Republican officials linked to the January 6 Insurrection and those minimizing COVID-19’s severity, as stated on the brewery’s website.
