Lifeguards Perform Dramatic Ocean Rescue in Florida

2 hours ago 0

Recent risky ocean conditions have resulted in another remarkable rescue at Silver Beach in Volusia County, Florida. Two lifeguards are lauded for their decisive actions on July 30. Lifeguard Dempsey Manhart was about to take a lunch break when a family urgently waved him down for help, as reported by FOX 35 Orlando.

Lifesaving Teamwork

Dempsey Manhart observed an unconscious young boy held by a family member. Manhart aided in bringing the child from the water, joined by co-lifeguard Mackenzie Malone. Malone immediately checked the boy’s pulse and the lifeguards began CPR.

“We’re always prepared. We always make sure that we know what to do no matter the scenario,” Malone said.

The child, initially unconscious with a head wound, soon started breathing independently again, thanks to their swift efforts.

Rescue Impact

Malone, in her fourth summer as a lifeguard, noted this was her first experience saving a child from drowning. Her training proved invaluable, leading to a positive outcome where the young boy could return to his family.

Beachgoers are reminded to swim near staffed lifeguard towers for immediate assistance during emergencies. A Facebook user praised the lifeguards, stating, “Heroes! Grateful to learn how well-trained beach lifeguards are.”

Recent Lifeguard Challenges

This rescue follows another in California, where 16-year-old lifeguard Ryder Williams saved a 10-year-old boy amid massive waves in Santa Cruz, as reported by Fox News Digital.

Simultaneously, Los Angeles County lifeguards performed nearly 2,000 rescues during a weekend of hazardous ocean conditions, highlighting the challenges faced by lifeguards this summer.

Safety Advice

Visitors are encouraged to consult lifeguards about ocean conditions before swimming. Swimmers trapped in a rip current should remain calm, swim parallel to the shore to escape, then angle back towards it. In case of difficulty, floating or signaling for help is advised.

Andrea Margolis and Kelly McGreal contributed to the reporting from Fox News Digital.
