The trade market is heating up, marked by yesterday’s high-profile movements. Two prominent pitchers found new homes. Luis Castillo, in a challenging season, moved from the Mariners to the White Sox. Meanwhile, Tarik Skubal joined the Dodgers, enhancing their already formidable lineup.

As the baseball season progresses, some suggest it might be time to hand the Dodgers another trophy. The excitement doesn’t end there. Two teams to watch out for face each other today: the Philadelphia Phillies and the Baltimore Orioles.

Philadelphia Phillies’ Rollercoaster Season

The Phillies’ journey this season has been unpredictable. They started poorly, leading to a managerial change early on. This decision seemed overdue. Following the change, the Phillies briefly became a top team. Currently, they are five games above .500, indicating involvement in a wild card battle.

The Phillies lack extensive trade assets, but their needs are specific. A powerful bat and a stronger back-end starter could help. Zack Wheeler leads their rotation with an impressive 10-2 record, a 2.53 ERA, and a 0.92 WHIP. Despite a few rough starts in July, Wheeler consistently delivers quality performances. Against Wheeler, the Orioles manage just a .250 average in 68 at-bats.

Baltimore Orioles’ Unsteady Performance

The Orioles have faced struggles throughout the year, three games under .500 without displaying qualities of a strong contender.

The talent exists, but integrating it successfully remains elusive. For instance, Gunner Henderson’s .220 batting average highlights difficulties but isn’t the sole issue.

Pitching stands out as an area needing improvement. Despite possessing some good arms and recent bullpen enhancements, their rotation lacks depth. Kyle Bradish serves as today’s starter. His previous performance against the Tigers resulted in 10 hits and five earned runs over 4.2 innings.

Against Phillies hitters, Bradish has seen limited success, allowing a .188 batting average over 32 at-bats.

I choose to trust Bradish’s potential improvement. Despite Wheeler’s strength, Orioles’ recent form shows promise. Betting reflects confidence in Wheeler, but overlooks Bradish’s prospects. I’m backing the Orioles at +118 today.
