The father of U.S. Marine James Ray Walden III, who was killed in a 2017 hit-and-run accident, is raising concerns following the third arrest of Martin Martinez-Ballinas, the man involved in his son’s death. Martinez-Ballinas, a Mexican national, faces deportation for the third time after federal officials detained him on July 22.
Martinez-Ballinas had previously been convicted of a tragic crash in Maryland that took the life of 21-year-old Walden. Following deportation in 2020, he illegally reentered the U.S. in Texas in 2021, resulting in a 15-month prison sentence. Despite being deported again in October 2022, he managed to return undetected and was arrested in Maryland in December 2023. He completed a federal prison sentence in New Jersey before being taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Walden described how Martinez-Ballinas was driving without a license or insurance when he collided with his son’s motorcycle. Despite knowing his illegal status, Maryland officials had released Martinez-Ballinas five times between 2012 and 2017 after prior arrests.
During an interview on The Will Cain Show, Walden recalled his son as an adept Marine and intelligent analyst. He highlighted his son’s promising future as a crypto-analyst for the National Security Agency (NSA), emphasizing the abrupt end to a blossoming career.
Walden criticized suggestions to abolish ICE, expressing disbelief at the condemnation of agents performing their duty to enforce laws. He emphasized the necessity of immigration enforcement to prevent tragedies similar to his son’s death.
Walden urged understanding of the profound impact such an event has on affected families. “You can’t predict it, but you can prevent it,” he stated.
Attributing significant importance to immigration enforcement during Donald Trump’s presidency, Walden commended the former president for his commitment to such issues. He praised Trump’s dedication to implementing policies that prioritize enforcement.
