Tony Romo’s Arrest: Details from Police Footage

Tony Romo faced questioning by police during his July 23 arrest for operating while intoxicated in Wisconsin, as shown in newly revealed police bodycam footage obtained by Fox News Digital. The ex-Dallas Cowboys quarterback claimed he was returning from a golf course and insisted he hadn’t consumed any alcohol before requesting to contact his attorney. Upon being asked to exit the vehicle, Romo questioned, “Because I’m coming from a golf course, you think I’m drunk?”

Authorities detained Romo and took him to a nearby station for field sobriety tests. The arresting officer noted seeing red, glassy eyes and detecting the smell of alcohol emanating from Romo.

After completing the sobriety tests, Romo declined to take a breath test and told the officer, “I’ve heard from all the lawyers don’t ever do that.” Consequently, Romo received a citation for a first-offense operating while intoxicated and for refusing to undergo a chemical test. He was released but is scheduled to appear in court on September 21.

Romo was stopped on the highway after participating in the Wisconsin Amateur Golf Championship. He had planned to compete in another golf event, the M&P Group Texas State Open, but withdrew subsequently.

Following his football career, which ended in 2017, Romo joined CBS as a color commentator. His football career included being the Cowboys’ starting quarterback from 2006 to 2015, with an injury eventually leading to Dak Prescott taking his place in 2016. Over his career, Romo passed for 34,183 yards, 248 touchdowns, and 117 interceptions, achieving a 65.3% completion rate.

His achievements include being a four-time Pro Bowl selection and third place in the 2014 MVP vote, behind Aaron Rodgers and J.J. Watt. Romo’s playoff record includes a memorable game against the Seattle Seahawks where, after a botched snap, he was stopped short of a touchdown, resulting in a Seattle victory.

Since stepping away from the field, Romo and Jim Nantz have been a prominent commentary team for CBS, covering three Super Bowls, including the Kansas City Chiefs’ triumph over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. Romo has not yet commented on this arrest.
