Search for American Woman Missing in Grenada Continues

An ongoing search is underway for Elizabeth “Liz” Waddell, a 44-year-old woman from North Carolina, who vanished while vacationing on the Caribbean island of Grenada. According to the Royal Grenada Police Force, Waddell was last seen near Grand Anse Beach in St. George’s before being reported missing on Wednesday.

Disappearance Details

Family reported that Waddell seemed to go for a swim, leaving a towel on the pier. She was staying with a friend at the Hideaway Waterfront Apartments, as indicated by the Grenada Broadcasting Network (GBN).

The police have reached out for assistance from local fishermen, boat operators, and residents along the southern coast for any information on Waddell’s whereabouts. They issued a bulletin describing her as 5 feet, 5 inches tall with short blond hair.

Efforts in the Search Operation

An extensive search operation is underway. It involves police officers, divers, and students from St. George’s University, as reported by GBN. Contact attempts were made to Waddell’s husband, Cailen Waddell, Grenadian police, and the U.S. State Department.

Family’s Plea for Information

On Facebook, Cailen Waddell shared his plans to travel to Grenada to aid in the search. He expressed his gratitude for the ongoing efforts of the police, noting their continuous updates and thorough investigation to locate his wife. He described Liz as “a loving, free-spirited person” who “could make friends with anyone.”

Towel Found Without Any Other Signs

Amanda Romano-Harmon, a family friend, mentioned that Waddell’s swimming companion was busy with an online course at their Airbnb while Waddell went swimming. Romano-Harmon pointed out that Waddell wore a swimsuit when she left the apartment.

After finishing the course, the friend noticed Waddell’s towel left on the pier, with no sign of her. Hours later, when Waddell did not return, her friend reported her missing. Waddell’s phone was not with her at the time.

Authorities Request Information

The Grenadian police have requested anyone with information to contact the South Saint George Police Station or nearby law enforcement.

The U.S. State Department, through a statement to ABC News, confirmed awareness of the missing American in Grenada. They explained their role in assisting families with missing persons’ reports abroad. They directed further inquiries to local Grenadian law enforcement due to privacy reasons.
