Daymond John, known for his role on “Shark Tank,” recently shared insights into achieving success in business. Speaking with Fox News Digital at Fanatics Fest, the entrepreneur emphasized the importance of passion in business ventures.
“If you’re starting something that you love, you have to want to do it for free,” John advised. He explained that true success comes when you’re willing to get paid for what you would happily do without compensation.
John, 57, highlighted the necessity of aligning business with personal interests. He noted that while the financial aspect is crucial, passion should lead the way.
The co-founder of FUBU, John began his entrepreneurial journey early. He founded the iconic brand in 1992 with three friends, driven by a personal frustration with existing brands not catering to African Americans. This need inspired him and fueled his love for fashion and music.
Describing his motivation, John told The Source Magazine, “I was a designer who respected the community I was selling to, and it was fun.” The brand’s association with the vibrant world of hip-hop further propelled its popularity.
John joined “Shark Tank” in 2009, bringing his business acumen to a wider audience. He has invested in numerous companies, with notable successes including Bombas and Bubba’s-Q Boneless Ribs.
On his investment strategy, John revealed, “I always look for the person first — before the idea.” He values entrepreneurs who are dedicated to learning and personal growth. This focus on trust and potential is key to his decisions.
At the Fanatics Fest, John expressed excitement at being part of the sports and entertainment spectacle. “I’m just here being a fan myself,” he shared, eager to enjoy the dynamic environment filled with sports, signings, and celebrity appearances.
