In the early hours of Saturday, a fatal rollover crash occurred in Barrington Hills. The incident took place around 2:20 a.m. near Hills and Dales and Brinker roads. These roads were closed for eight hours following the crash as authorities conducted their investigation.
According to the Barrington Hills Police Department, the crash involved a blue Mercedes SUV traveling at high speed northbound on Brinker Road. The vehicle ended up crashing into a nearby lawn.
A significant aspect of the crash scene was a tree marked by investigators with paint. This was part of the ongoing investigation following the crash on July 25, 2026. It is reported that one person lost their life in the crash, while two others sustained injuries. Their identities have not been released yet.
Witness accounts describe the SUV sliding and rolling over 400 feet. Along the way, it clipped two trees, crossed a culvert, and finally stopped near Hills and Dales Road. The vehicle struck and toppled a large oak tree during its course. One person was ejected from the SUV, and responders had to cut two others free from the wreck.
Zach Swiatek, a local resident, was made aware of the crash by his daughter, who heard the crash from their home, situated only a few hundred feet away. Swiatek went out to find the damaged SUV against his 60-foot tree. The vehicle’s engine and transmission had been detached by the impact, and the police and first responders were actively rescuing those inside.
Swiatek stated that vehicle crashes on this particular stretch of road are frequent due to the narrow, shoulder-less nature of the two-way road. However, the severity of Saturday’s crash was extraordinary. “For a single-car crash, that was pretty horrific,” Swiatek remarked. Speed was identified by police as a major factor in the accident.
Swiatek recalled that vehicles often crash near his home due to high speeds and, in winter, ice. “Speed must have been very high to knock down a tree”, Swiatek added.
The Barrington Hills Police are still investigating the circumstances of the crash. Swiatek expressed his condolences: “This was a horrible accident, and my heart goes out to the people involved and their families. Huge loss today.”
