David Lee Roth’s Tour Cancellations and Sammy Hagar’s Support

David Lee Roth’s return to the summer tour scene has faced an unexpected challenge. Several of the former Van Halen frontman’s concerts were suddenly canceled, which left fans curious about the cause.

As word of the cancellations spread, Sammy Hagar quickly reached out to Roth with a public message of support. Hagar expressed his concern in a video, sharing his thoughts while holding his signature margarita.

“Hey Dave, Sammy here. I just got a call from Michael Anthony,” Hagar said with a smile. “I’m sorry to hear about your tour getting canceled. I hope you’re well and that there isn’t a physical issue.”

The canceled shows include stops in Colorado, Iowa, Kentucky, and Illinois. The reason remains unknown, but only Roth’s July dates were affected. Tickets for his August and September performances, including a show on August 7 in Sturgis, South Dakota, are still available.

Hagar continued his message by reflecting on their shared history in Van Halen, calling the band one of rock’s defining acts. He praised Roth’s efforts to support the music they created together.

“Honestly, Mike and I love that you’ve kept it going. That’s important. You, me, Mikey, Al, and Ed were irreplaceable.”

Hagar encouraged Roth to return whenever he’s ready. He extended an invitation for Roth to join him and Michael Anthony in their Las Vegas residency in September. Hagar suggested Roth could MC the show or perform a few songs.

“Come to Vegas in September. Sing a couple of songs, MC the show. Do what you do best, which is entertaining.”

Hagar closed his message with a heartfelt sentiment.

“Anyway, hope you’re well. God bless, brother.”

In a caption accompanying the video, Hagar emphasized the importance of carrying on their music amid the rise of AI-generated music. He stressed that live performances are vital for both current and future fans.

The show of support is significant, as Roth and Hagar have a history of competition. Roth left Van Halen in 1985, with Hagar stepping in as the frontman. Roth returned in 2006 and stayed until the band’s conclusion in 2020. The two briefly joined forces for a tour in 2002, but their rivalry resurfaced.

The news of canceled dates adds another chapter to Roth’s comeback after he retired in 2021. His planned farewell Las Vegas residency was affected by COVID-19, yet he returned to perform in 2025 and continued through 2026.
