Illinois Leaders Dismiss Trump’s Proposal to Address Chicago Crime

Chicago’s escalating violence has again become a focal point of national debate.

President Trump has offered to deploy the National Guard to help curb the crime rate. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson have rejected this proposal. They claim Trump does not understand local safety needs, pointing out that he has reduced funding for crucial safety institutions in Chicago.

In a recent incident, two individuals were fatally shot inside a vehicle at the University of Chicago. This occurred on Thursday, prompting further concern over the city’s crime issues.

The victims, a 27-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man, were found in a car on the 5900 block of South Ellis, near prominent university landmarks like the Midway Plaisance Ice Skating Rink and Harper Quad.

Both had gunshot wounds to the head and were transported to the university hospital in critical condition. They were later pronounced dead. It is still unclear if they had any connection to the university.

A firearm was recovered at the scene, and video evidence showed that the vehicle sustained damage, indicating a possible crash during or after the shooting.

The Chicago Police Department has stated that the incident is under investigation and hasn’t released further details. They have reached out to university police for more information about the victims.
