Black Bear Ventures into California Office

A black bear entered a Southern California water district office after pushing open the front door. This unexpected visitor briefly explored inside before returning to the nearby forest. The event took place at the Crestline Village Water District in the San Bernardino Mountains. Surveillance footage captured the bear entering the office while employees looked on as the unusual encounter unfolded.

The bear spent several moments sniffing around the office and wandered through the building. It then returned to the entrance, pushed the door open again, and left on its own. Josselyn Brian, an employee at the water district, told KTLA, It was exciting. It was really cool to see a bear that close. It’s rare that we’re that close to them. Thankfully, no one was in danger. There were no customers in there at the time; it was just us. So it couldn’t have been better. Scary, but wonderful. Employees also noted that the bear wandered back into the woods after its brief visit. No injuries occurred and the building remained undamaged.

This incident follows another noteworthy bear sighting earlier in the week in rural New Mexico. A bear climbed a utility pole near Gladstone, east of Santa Fe. This encounter was caught on video and shared by the U.S. Department of the Interior with a humorous social media post about American Energy Dominance not being intended in this scenario. The video, verified by Storyful, included audio from a 911 caller reporting the sight. Wildlife officials were alerted, but because of the bear’s position on the pole, tranquilizing it was deemed unsafe.

Sadly, this bear succumbed to a fatal electrocution before any rescue action could be done, according to the New York Post. Wildlife experts explain that black bears are strong climbers who may scale trees, poles, or other tall structures when startled.

Mountain communities like Crestline often see bears roaming neighborhoods searching for food, making encounters with people not uncommon. However, a bear venturing into an office remains notably unusual.
