Sunny Hostin, co-host of “The View,” recently found herself in a delicate situation when her son was stopped for trespassing on Metro-North railroad property. New bodycam footage reveals Hostin appealing to officers to overlook the incident, emphasizing her past as a federal prosecutor.
In the video obtained by Fox News Digital, Hostin is heard speaking with an officer, saying, “My name is Sunny Hostin and I’m one of the co-hosts of ‘The View’ and I’m a former federal prosecutor.” She arrived on the scene after her son, Gabriel Hostin, was stopped by Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) police for trespassing. She continued her plea by highlighting his academic background.
“That’s my son. He’s a Harvard graduate. He doesn’t have a criminal record,” she argued. “It’s an innocent mistake.”
According to records, the incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. on June 16, when officers observed Gabriel on a part of the railroad marked with “NO TRESPASSING” signs at the New Rochelle station. He was seen running dangerously close to an electrified rail, leading officers to stop him for questioning. Despite the situation, Gabriel did not have a prior criminal record and cooperated with the officers, who issued him a summons for trespass rather than arresting him.
The bodycam footage further shows Gabriel questioning if the summons was necessary. An officer clarified, “Because it is an arrestable offense. I want to make that clear.” The officer explained that the trespass violation was a reduction from what could have been an arrestable charge.
Hostin emphasized her son’s positive background, stating, “He’s a Harvard grad who teaches fourth-grade geometry to South Bronx kids. It’s an innocent mistake.” Court documents indicate Gabriel is due to appear in New Rochelle City Court on July 31.
In a letter acquired by TMZ, Hostin defended her son, saying he mistakenly accessed the property while jogging and did not notice the “No Trespassing” sign. Online, the incident has sparked varied reactions, with some criticizing Hostin’s appeal to her legal credentials during the exchange.
