In Arlington, Texas, Chicago White Sox catcher Kyle Teel was involved in a critical play during the second inning of Monday’s game against the Texas Rangers. Right fielder Braden Montgomery threw the ball to home plate, where Teel attempted to tag a sliding Ezequiel Duran. Despite Teel’s effort, Duran reached home safely.
Following the play, Teel left the game due to a left ankle injury. The White Sox reported that Teel would undergo further evaluation. This injury adds to a tough season for Teel, who has faced several setbacks.
Earlier this year, Teel strained his right hamstring on March 10 while playing for Italy in the World Baseball Classic. As he worked towards recovery, he experienced another injury on May 16. During a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte, Teel sprained the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee while swinging, as his front spike caught the ground.
He returned to play his first regular-season game for the White Sox on June 22, 2026. In 19 games so far, he has posted a batting line of .190/.271/.317, with two home runs and 14 RBIs.
Drew Romo replaced Teel as catcher on Monday after the injury occurred.
