House Democrats Respond to DSA’s New Political Agenda

Some prominent House Democrats seemed unprepared when asked about the Democratic Socialists of America’s (DSA) new plan that seeks to dismantle the current U.S. political system. This proposal includes eliminating the Senate, the presidency, and the Supreme Court.

Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., expressed his lack of support for the agenda, stating, “I don’t support that,” when questioned about the plan. He also mentioned, “I haven’t read the proposal.” The revised DSA platform, titled “Workers Deserve More,” aims to abolish the Senate and replace the president and Supreme Court with an executive branch and judiciary elected by and subordinate to Congress.

DSA’s Broader Political Goals

The DSA platform outlines several political changes, divided into three sections. The final section proposes a unicameral, proportional legislature and a parliamentary system to replace the presidency. Other objectives include the complete abolishment of U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and pardoning all immigrants, including those who have committed crimes. Additionally, the platform suggests defunding the Department of War.

The organization has been vocal about abolishing ICE since 2018. The current platform includes supporting extreme immigration reforms, such as ending all deportations immediately, granting full voting rights to people with criminal convictions and noncitizens, and easing immigration control restrictions.

Some House Democrats, like Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., have avoided commenting on the new socialist agenda. When asked, Omar stated, “I’m not a member of the DSA, so I can’t comment on any documents that they put out.” Similarly, Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., indicated he wasn’t worried about the influence of far-left, socialist candidates on the Democratic party’s agenda. He said, “I look forward to working with all our colleagues who run as Democrats.”

DSA’s Endorsement and Candidate Requirements

The DSA’s magazine, Democratic Left, published a statement detailing the formal requirements for socialist candidates to receive a DSA endorsement. The “Workers Deserve More” plan will play a formal role in the national candidate endorsement process. Candidates are expected to align their campaign platforms with the DSA’s agenda as closely as possible. This endorsement process indicates that the platform is more than just a policy wish list.

Despite this, House Democrats like Omar, Khanna, and Aguilar mentioned to Fox News Digital that they either had not read the proposal or declined to comment on it.
