NFL Suspends Cardinals Executive for Gambling Violations

The NFL has indefinitely suspended Arizona Cardinals personnel executive Ryan Gold for violating the league’s gambling policy. An investigation revealed Gold provided confidential inside information regarding the Cardinals’ 2026 draft picks before official announcements. He also participated in parlay bets on NFL and college games.

The NFL’s statement highlighted that the gambling policy is reviewed annually with all personnel. It strictly prohibits any form of sports gambling participation or facilitation and sharing of non-public information. While there is no evidence suggesting any impact on the integrity of NFL games, the league emphasized the seriousness of policy violations.

The Cardinals released a statement expressing their support for the NFL’s decision. They noted the league’s policies are clear and consistently communicated to all employees. The team’s focus remains on preparing for the upcoming training camp and the 2026 season.

Gold, in his 13th season with the Cardinals, became director of college scouting in June 2025. Previously, he served as assistant director of college scouting from 2022 to 2024 and as a college scouting coordinator from 2018 to 2021. Gold has the right to appeal the suspension, though he was unavailable for comment.

The NFL enforces strict gambling policies for both players and personnel. The policies include prohibitions against:

• Betting on NFL games
• Manipulating or attempting to manipulate any NFL game or event
• Sharing confidential NFL game information with third parties

NFL players may legally bet on other sports, provided they do so off club property or while not traveling with the team. Participation in fantasy football is allowed if prize money does not exceed $250, and players may gamble in casinos during personal time.

The Cardinals fully cooperated with the investigation. The NFL found no indication that other team members, coaches, or players were aware or involved. An extensive review, including interviews and examination of electronic records, showed no game or play impacts. Since 1963, over 15 players have faced suspensions for gambling violations, the most recent being Isaiah Rodgers in 2023.
