President Trump Orders Reduction of Utah National Monuments

4 weeks ago 0

President Donald Trump has signed executive orders to significantly reduce the size of two national monuments in Utah. The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, previously encompassing around 1.87 million acres, will be reduced to approximately 181,500 acres. This move dramatically decreases the protected land area.

The decision also impacts Bears Ears National Monument. Both monuments will see reductions in their designated areas, potentially opening these lands to exploration for minerals, oil, and gas. This decision addresses ongoing debates over land use and preservation.

The reductions raise concerns about the protection of these public lands, which are known for their wilderness and tribal significance. The action has sparked discussions about environmental impact and the preservation of natural and cultural resources.
