Mike Rowe Sues Discovery Over Unpaid Narration for ‘Deadliest Catch’

Mike Rowe, known for hosting ‘Dirty Jobs’ and the founder of the mikeroweWORKS Foundation, has initiated legal action against Discovery. He alleges that the network owes him more than $2 million for narration work on the popular series ‘Deadliest Catch.’ This lawsuit, filed by Rowe and his production company, Lab Rat, claims that Discovery Talent Services violated their contract.

According to the suit, Rowe entered into a “pay-to-play” deal with Discovery in 2020, guaranteeing him $40,000 per episode, regardless of his narration participation. Although Rowe didn’t narrate five episodes in the 21st season of ‘Deadliest Catch,’ his production company discovered that international episodes were significantly different from those broadcast in the United States. Lab Rat argues that these episodes qualify as “originally produced,” making them subject to the pay-to-play agreement’s terms. Consequently, Lab Rat asserts that Discovery owes them at least $2.04 million in lost wages, including payments for 12 additional episodes, plus interest.

Rowe and Lab Rat are pursuing a jury trial to resolve the matter. This isn’t Rowe’s first lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery. In June 2025, he sued over unpaid residuals for ‘Deadliest Catch’ after it appeared on streaming platforms.
