Major Russian Missile Attack on Kyiv Kills At Least 10

In a severe escalation of the conflict, at least 10 people were reported dead after Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv overnight. This occurred hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy cautioned about an impending large-scale assault.

Local officials revealed that 46 individuals sustained injuries, with emergency workers searching the debris for survivors in residential high-rises impacted by the strikes. Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s City Military Administration, expressed the tragedy of the attacks, emphasizing that these were sites where people lived their everyday lives.

A notable incident involved the partial collapse of a residential building in the Podilskyi district. In the Darnytsia district, multiple multistory structures were damaged, with concerns of individuals being trapped beneath the rubble. The assault, continuing into early Monday, utilized both ballistic and cruise missiles, alongside drones. The ensuing explosions forced many civilians to take refuge in subway stations.

Hours before the attack, President Zelenskyy reiterated his warnings of a significant Russian offensive on the city. This warning came after a previous Russian strike that resulted in at least 31 deaths in Kyiv, occurring just one day before a NATO summit in Turkey.

The previous attack marked the largest since Moscow initiated its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In a plea on Telegram late Sunday, Zelenskyy called upon Western allies to enhance Ukraine’s air defense capabilities by providing more Patriot missiles. He stressed that the lack of reinforcement only encourages Russia to extend its long-term conflict.
