Folarin Balogun of the United States expressed excitement after scoring during the World Cup’s round of 32 match against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Santa Clara, California. The event took place near San Francisco on Wednesday.
Balogun, a key player for the U.S. men’s soccer team, is now permitted to participate in the World Cup’s Round of 16 game against Belgium on Monday. This follows a decision by FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee, which announced on Sunday that it is suspending the American striker’s one-game red card ban.
During the U.S. team’s 2-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday, Balogun received a red card for stepping on the ankle of opponent Tarik Muharemović. FIFA stated, “The implementation of the match suspension is suspended for a probationary period of one year.” The organization emphasized that if Balogun commits another similar offense within this period, the suspension will be enforced in addition to any other penalties for the new infraction.
U.S. Soccer issued a statement in response: “We accept the decision of the Disciplinary Committee and are pleased that Folarin Balogun is eligible to compete tomorrow. Our full attention is focused on the Round of 16 match against Belgium in Seattle, and we look forward to the continued support of our fans.”
