San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has recently attracted attention due to his interactions with Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. Aiyuk posted a video on Saturday on social media, directly addressing Daniels by referring to him as ‘5,’ which is Daniels’ jersey number.
In the video, Aiyuk responded to Daniels saying, ‘5 gonna text me talking about some, ‘You’re on my team now. You follow my rules.’ Boy, I’m a grown man, boy. You gonna have to start running behind your momma and I might believe what you talking about. But until then, (No).’ Aiyuk did not shy away from making personal remarks, tagging Daniels and stating, ‘Tf always so funny lil n—a. Turn your savage up.’
Despite these comments, Aiyuk seemed open to the idea of joining Daniels on the Commanders, expressing interest in another post: ‘Let’s run it 5! Let’s see! Need you available all season and I’ll do the same.’
The 49ers have struggled to find a trade partner for Aiyuk since he signed a significant four-year, $120 million extension with them in August 2024. The ongoing public expressions of dissatisfaction by Aiyuk may not aid in this process, with general manager John Lynch indicating Aiyuk’s future might be settled away from public speculation.
Aiyuk’s desire to reconnect with his former Arizona State teammate, Daniels, has been evident. Earlier in the month, Aiyuk criticized the 49ers’ decision-making, labeling their action of offering the extension as ‘dumb’ and ‘stupid.’ He suggested the 49ers feared his potential performance elsewhere if released.
The disagreement traces back to when the 49ers annulled the remaining guaranteed money on his extension. This action followed Aiyuk’s failure to attend rehab sessions after suffering a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus in his right knee in 2024. The 49ers placed Aiyuk on the reserve/left team list in December, when he ceased attending team facilities.
Prior to his injury, Aiyuk totaled 24 receptions for 374 yards in the 2024 season. His previous season in 2023 was remarkable, with 1,342 yards from 75 receptions and seven touchdowns, crucial for the 49ers’ Super Bowl run.
