Prince William’s American Ancestry Explored in New Book

A new book titled American Crown by Stephanie Green uncovers the American lineage of Prince William, the future king of Britain. Through meticulous research, Green traces his ancestry to Nathan Hale and other American patriots who fought against the crown in the Revolutionary War.

Green’s exploration reveals fascinating connections. Through his mother, the late Princess Diana, William is connected to Benajah Strong, an ancestor integral to the American Revolution’s early events. Strong’s activities in Coventry, Connecticut, positioned him at the heart of anti-monarchist sentiment as part of ‘The Lexington Alarm.’

Strong’s nephew, Nathan Hale, emerged as a central figure. Described by Green as a significant American martyr, Hale was a teacher and joined the Connecticut militia at the onset of the Revolutionary War. He later became a part of Knowlton’s Rangers, considered the first organized U.S. military intelligence unit. Despite his tragic end, Hale’s legacy lives on in America.

Hale’s reported last words were, ‘I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.’

During her investigation, Green identified a connection with America’s first president, George Washington, through the noble Spencer family, Princess Diana’s lineage. The ties between these prominent families stretch back to their ancestral homes of Sulgrave Manor and Althorp in England.

Another captivating figure in the family tree is Fannie Work, later Frances Burke Roche. Known for her lavish lifestyle during the Gilded Age, Work drew comparisons to Princess Diana for her beauty, glamour, and societal defiance.

Green believes Diana’s affection for America may have drawn her back had she lived. According to sources, Diana had contemplated relocating to California, staying connected to the roots her ancestors once fled.

The author speculates on how William’s ancestors might react to his future role as king. Green suggests they would appreciate his character—a devoted family man and patriot with qualities cherished on both sides of the Atlantic.
