Historic Fourth of July Festivities Surround World Cup Match

The pregame festivities for the France vs. Paraguay World Cup Round of 16 match will be remembered as one of the greatest in history. On July 4, at Philadelphia Stadium, the field was uniquely transformed to resemble the American flag, accompanied by performers and pyrotechnics. This grand spectacle occurred despite no American team being involved, highlighting an American cultural moment that captivated the audience.

During the ceremony at Lincoln Financial Field, the Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale delivered a touching rendition of “America the Beautiful” in celebration of America’s 250th birthday. Their performance was complemented by other presentations, enhancing the patriotic atmosphere.

Smoke formed the national flag of the United States as part of the impressive Fourth of July ceremony. While the choir sang, two young individuals, a White young man and a Black young woman, performed spoken word pieces. These oral poems emphasized the nation’s founding and the ideals born in Philadelphia, known as the City of Brotherly Love.

“250 years ago, in this city, an idea found its voice,” declared the young man.

“Not perfect. Not finished. But bold enough to believe in people,” the young woman added as the choir softly hummed.

The performance further emphasized America’s founding principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, which have led to significant freedoms and the hosting of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This global event serves to unite people worldwide.

Additional ceremonial elements included an appearance by Miss Pennsylvania, Stephanie Skinner, dressed as Lady Liberty, and a spectacular Navy flyover. This unforgettable celebration truly conveyed the spirit of Independence Day.
