Bishop moved to Ireland at 14 and returned to the U.S. in his mid-40s during the COVID-19 pandemic. His latest stand-up special, “Bridge and Tunnel,” is showcased at Manhattan’s Comedy Cellar and streaming on Hulu. Bishop will release it on YouTube for free on July 10, marking his seventh special and second U.S. performance.

Bishop explained that American venues improved his comedy through pace and punch, contrasting the narrative-driven style he perfected in Ireland.

Embracing his New York origins, Bishop found new material by exploring his roots.

Bishop explained, “When I accepted my identity as a guy from Queens, my comedy expanded.” His special “Bridge and Tunnel” reflects Gen X nostalgia, connecting especially with audiences familiar with cultural references.

Bishop acknowledged the generational gap, recognizing younger audiences may not grasp the nostalgia yet.

Comedy Partnership

Bishop’s marriage to comedian Hannah Berner offers mutual support and insights into comedy. Berner’s second special, “None of My Business,” launched on Hulu, adding to her portfolio.
