One notable retweet from her account read, “I just cannot get over the fact that the universe has foisted upon us the perfect illustration of literally every failing of capitalism and people are still like we can’t be communists cuz there won’t be enough types of soup.” This and other posts led to backlash from conservatives and moderates alike.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani continues to support Avila Chevalier despite the resurfacing of controversial posts. Statements by political figures suggest a divide in the party. For instance, Senator John Fetterman criticized the party’s leftward shift and expressed skepticism over the defense of such candidates.
