Acting Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling is now nominated for the full-time position by President Donald Trump. Sonderling has been performing the role effectively, even prior to this nomination.
Trump’s previous pick for Labor Secretary, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, resigned after just over a year. Her resignation followed allegations of civil rights violations and reports of an inappropriate relationship with an employee. Additionally, there were claims of her frequent absences from the office. Chavez-DeRemer has denied any misconduct.
Sonderling, who has visited the Lehigh Valley operations facility for Mack Trucks in Pennsylvania, has essentially been leading the department already, positioning him as a suitable candidate for the role.
