Search Ongoing for Missing South Carolina Woman

A South Carolina woman, Elena Katherine Moore, went missing last week after being last spotted leaving a Planet Fitness gym and heading towards a nearby wooded area, as reported by authorities.

Details of Disappearance

Moore, aged 39, was last seen on Thursday evening, having signed in to Planet Fitness in Lexington, a suburb near Columbia. The Lexington Police Department stated that she was seen walking away from the gym toward a wooded area situated behind a Lowe’s Home Improvement store. Her disappearance was reported the following day.

Moore, who is a personal trainer, has been noted as having ‘very out of character’ behavior, which concerned authorities reported to ABC News.

Elena Katherine Moore signed in at Planet Fitness on Whiteford Way around 6:40 PM Thursday and was later observed walking away from the facility towards a wooded area behind Lowe’s.

Search Efforts

On Friday, a drone was deployed by investigators to perform an initial search of the area where she was last seen, but no signs were found.

By Monday, a more thorough search operation was launched by Lexington police, in collaboration with local and state agencies. This included the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Department of Natural Resources, and other emergency responders.

Police emphasized that the operation was a search effort, not a recovery mission, aiming to eliminate one possible location where Moore might be.

Chief Terrence Green of Lexington Police disclosed that no trace of Ms. Moore was found during the search.

Physical Description

Moore is described as a white female, 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing around 120 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen in an olive-green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants. It remains uncertain whether she has her cellphone with her.
