Earlier, Tomáš Souček scored what appeared to be a leading goal for Czechia, but it was annulled by the referees for offside, confirmed by replays.
South Korea equalized in the 67th minute through Hwang In-beom. He expertly coordinated with Lee Kang-in, eluding his defender and the goalkeeper before netting the ball.
Only recently, both teams made substitutions after Czechia’s initial goal at the 58th minute marked by Ladislav Krejčí from a pass by Vladimír Coufal.
Throughout the match, South Korea maintained pressure, achieving an 11-2 lead in shots. They faced consistent resistance from Czechia’s goalkeeper Matěj Kovár.
The match resumed after a scoreless first half with South Korea having eight attempts in contrast to Czechia’s two.
Despite attempts from Son Heung-min, who had opportunities at the goal, none succeeded. Son, known for his scoring abilities, missed twice in the 37th and 38th minutes.
Czechia’s participation marks their return to the World Cup after a 20-year gap. Historically known as Czechoslovakia, they were regulars in early World Cups. Since transitioning to the Czech Republic, they have appeared less frequently, last participating in 2006.
The game initially saw South Korea controlling most of the early action. However, Czechia gradually found rhythm and increased their attacking strategy.
South Korea’s early chances included a corner kick and a close attempt by Lee Jae-sung, but neither resulted in a goal.
