This week, the Northeast will experience its first widespread summerlike heat and humidity. The weather will come from a hot air mass moving from the central United States, causing discomfort along the East Coast.
While the heat will not quite reach 100 degrees, meteorologist Bryan Ramsey from the National Weather Service in New York warns of an uncomfortable atmosphere described as ‘sweltering’ and ‘sultry.’ The weather will include high humidity that hinders natural cooling by making the air feel sticky and damp.
Typically, June marks the beginning of warm weather spells, but this current pattern mirrors 90-degree days experienced in April, intensified by a heavier dose of tropical moisture.
High temperatures are expected to range between 90 to 95 degrees, approaching record values. Bob Oravec from the federal Weather Prediction Center advises caution due to the substantial heat.
Storms may provide some relief from these conditions, offering a potential break from the persistent heat.
