On ‘The View,’ Whoopi Goldberg defended Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s attendance at Game 3 of the NBA Finals. Goldberg argued both men deserved seats due to their status as long-standing Knicks fans and New Yorkers.
Goldberg addressed fan objections to Trump’s and Mamdani’s presence at Madison Square Garden. She stated, ‘Trump and Mayor Mamdani are Knicks fans and have been, they’re New Yorkers,’ emphasizing their ties to the city and the team.
Goldberg dismissed concerns that Trump or Mamdani could negatively impact the Knicks’ performance, stating, ‘I don’t think anything can jinx anything. I think these guys are on a mission.’
The discussion followed a segment where fans expressed preferences against Trump and Mamdani’s attendance. One fan remarked, ‘I think I speak for all New Yorkers when I say that Mayor Mamdani and President Trump, do not come to Madison Square Garden. We don’t want you.’
Goldberg emphasized supporting the Knicks with positive energy, rather than focusing on attendees’ political identities. ‘All we need to concentrate on is putting our energy and good energy towards them, towards the Knicks,’ she added.
Trump will attend as a guest of Knicks owner James Dolan, while Mamdani plans to be present separately and will not sit with the former president.
Security measures for the event include enhanced screening due to Trump’s attendance, and officials have canceled a watch party outside the venue.
