3 weeks ago 0

A 66-year-old woman in Atlanta was tragically killed in a stabbing incident on a MARTA train. The attack was described by transit police as random. The victim, Margaret Swan, was identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The attack occurred while the train was between the Lakewood-Fort McPherson and Oakland City stations, stated MARTA Police Chief Scott Kreher. In a statement, MARTA expressed their condolences, emphasizing the senseless nature of the act.

John Elijah Matthews, 25, has been charged with murder in connection with Swan’s death aboard the public transit. According to authorities, Matthews allegedly attacked Swan by cutting her throat shortly after approaching her as she sat alone on the train.

The incident took place at 11:21 a.m. on a Saturday. CCTV footage showed Swan sitting alone before Matthews appeared and stood near her. Within moments, he reportedly pulled out a knife and began the stabbing assault.

Swan was stabbed 18 to 20 times in an unprovoked manner while pleading for help. Surveillance captured the violent actions until the train reached Oakland City Station. Matthews was apprehended at the station platform with the knife still in hand.

Emergency responders attempted to save Swan, but she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The tragic event raised concerns among Atlanta commuters about safety on trains. A similar stabbing incident at the Georgia State Station recently heightened these fears.

Fox News has contacted the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office for more details.
